Join us to brainstorm, explore, and illuminate your voice through art against racism.

Welcome to Voices Illuminated, a one-day event exclusively dedicated to empowering young Black girls aged 12-24 through the transformative power of art in the fight against racism. This event aims to provide a safe and supportive space for young minds to brainstorm and explore innovative ways to address and dismantle racism in our province.

About the Program:

Voices Illuminated, organized by "Ladies in the Family" in partnership with the "Women's Centre of Calgary," is a unique initiative that focuses on empowering Black girls through artistic expression and promoting their active involvement in the conversation against racism. This event will foster emotional and mental wellness while encouraging social integration and productivity in their lives and communities.

What to Expect:

  • Inspiring Speakers: Our esteemed facilitator, Bukola Ojemakinde, a Chemical Engineer and dedicated community servant, will set the tone for the day. Her journey of making a difference in both the Oil and Gas industry and through her not-for-profit organizations will leave you motivated and inspired.

  • Engaging Presentations: Alison, a seasoned professional speaker and trainer, will captivate and inspire you with her innovative exercises and creative flair. Her message will resonate with diverse audiences, regardless of age or background.

  • The Power of Mentorship: Hebah Adeladan, a passionate Bachelor of Commerce student, will share her experiences of overcoming cultural challenges and how mentorship can uplift African descendants and empower them financially. Her journey to becoming the Outstanding Ambassador of the Year will showcase the impact of dedicated leadership.

  • Art Against Racism: Throughout the event, you will experience the powerful medium of art as a tool for raising awareness and combating racism. Engage in interactive art installations and workshops led by talented artists who believe in the transformative power of creativity.

  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with like-minded individuals, community leaders, and organizations that share the common goal of fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for women and girls.
